A foot-operated rudder can be purchased for precise control when the Helios is used as a sea touring kayak.
We recommend the rudder when the Helios is paddled as a double sea-touring kayak when the boat is loaded near its 396-pound capacity. The rudder helps the kayak track well in a straight line. The rudder is not needed when paddling the Helios as a single or when paddling in swift moving water. The skill of the paddlers also determines the need for a rudder.
The rudder simply fits over the stern seam of the Helios and attaches in a couple of minutes with stainless steel hardware. The rudder is controlled with foot stirrups from the aft cockpit. The rudder can quickly disassembled and carried flat in the Helios packbag with the boat. The construction is of a machined black UHMW composite with a corrosion resistant aluminum swing-up fin.

We offer three models of Aquabound paddles. They each feature 4-piece construction for compact traveling and storage. (The shaft joins in the middle, and the blades detach.) The blades are molded "composite thermoplastic" with a "dihedral" blade shape which minimizes blade flutter in hard paddling. The black shaft is oval in shape for comfort and control, and the blade angle is adjustable to three positions. The overall paddle length is 230 cm.

The Bravo 1 foot pump is a marine-quality, 5-liter capacity device which can easily inflate the Helios 380 kayak in less than 10 minutes. The Bravo 1 features a reinforced bellows and hose and stainless steel hardware.
